In a first for the anime industry, the adaptation of the popular Shonen Jump manga Kaiju No. 8 is set to stream worldwide on X (Twitter).
The unprecedented announcement was made at this year’s Jump Festa 2024, where it was revealed that Kaiju No. 8 would stream for free on the social media platform. “In addition,” the official statement reads, “real-time worldwide distribution has been decided on X (Twitter)! Please look forward to it.” The main trailer was also revealed, unveiling new cast additions; Fairouz Ai will voice Kikoru Shinomiya and Kengo Kawanishi voices Soshiro Hoshina.
The news means that X joins Crunchyroll as a streaming option for the much-anticipated Kaiju No. 8 anime. Crunchyroll’s latest report similarly confirms that Kaiju No. 8 will be simulcast alongside the version airing in Japanese, saying, “The series is scheduled to begin in April 2024 with Crunchyroll streaming Kaiju No. 8 as it airs in Japan.” The approach is certainly novel, with this being the first time a full anime series has streamed on X. The move is part of Kaiju No. 8’s international approach, which sees English and Japanese language options for its website and social media accounts, and saw the anime launch trailers in both languages at the same time.
Kaiju No. 8 has drummed up excitement through trailers, character designs and stunning character visuals that display what Production I.G. hopes to bring to new fans. The anime joins a host of other announcements made at Jump Festa 2024.
