Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has addressed speculation regarding alleged tensions between Lewis Hamilton and his race engineer Riccardo Adami, following a widely circulated team radio exchange during the Monaco Grand Prix.
During the race, Hamilton expressed frustration over delayed team orders, sarcastically suggesting the team “have a tea break” while he was held up behind teammate Charles Leclerc. This comment sparked media discussions about potential discord within the Ferrari camp.
Vasseur dismissed these narratives, attributing them to selective broadcasting of radio messages. He emphasized that the initial call to swap positions was initiated by Hamilton himself, a detail omitted from the broadcast, leading to a misrepresentation of events. Vasseur stated, “This is a joke from FOM because the first call came from Lewis – that Lewis asked us to swap,” highlighting the importance of context in interpreting such communications .
Hamilton also downplayed the incident, noting that his exchanges with Adami were part of the natural process of building rapport with a new engineer. He remarked, “We are getting to know each other but there are no issues between us at all,” and contrasted his interactions with the more intense radio communications of other drivers, such as Max Verstappen .
The Ferrari team has acknowledged the need for improved communication strategies to avoid similar misunderstandings in the future. Both Vasseur and Hamilton appear committed to fostering a collaborative environment, focusing on performance and cohesion as the season progresses.
