Mallorca, Spain – June 3, 2025 – Tennis legend Rafael Nadal marked his 39th birthday with a warm, intimate celebration at his family home in Mallorca, surrounded by his closest relatives and friends.
Though known for his fierce competitive spirit on the court, Nadal chose a calm and personal way to celebrate this year, far from the public spotlight. The day began with a traditional Mallorcan breakfast prepared by his mother, Ana María, including ensaimadas and freshly squeezed orange juice from their garden. According to a family friend, “Rafa always says nothing beats his mum’s cooking – especially on his birthday.”
The party took place in the backyard of the Nadal family villa, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Decorations were modest but elegant, featuring blue and white tones, symbolising both the island and Nadal’s favourite colours. His wife, Mery Perelló, organized a small surprise during the afternoon – a video montage of birthday messages from fans around the world, compiled with the help of the Rafa Nadal Foundation.
Nadal, visibly moved, thanked everyone in a short speech. “I’ve lived many special moments in my life, but being here at home, with my family and closest friends, is what truly matters. I’m grateful for the love I continue to receive, both here and from all over the world.”
Among the guests were his sister María Isabel, his longtime coach and uncle Toni Nadal, and a few fellow athletes, including Carlos Alcaraz, who gifted Rafa a signed racket with the message: “For the legend who inspired us all.”
Though not currently competing due to a partial recovery from recent injuries, Nadal appeared healthy and in good spirits. When asked about a possible return to the court, he smiled and said, “One day at a time. Today is for cake and family.”
The birthday cake was, of course, tennis-themed – a multi-layered chocolate creation shaped like a clay court, complete with miniature rackets and balls. Guests sang “Happy Birthday” in Spanish, English, and even a humorous attempt in French, honouring Rafa’s long history at Roland Garros.
As the sun set over Mallorca, laughter, music, and the sound of waves filled the air. It was a fitting celebration for a champion who remains grounded in family, tradition, and the simple joys of life.
Happy Birthday, Rafa – from Mallorca to the world.
