Michael Schumacher’s former Ferrari race engineer, Luca Baldisseri, believes Lewis Hamilton is making “excuses” for his struggles to adapt at Ferrari. Hamilton has cited challenges like unfamiliar brake materials and engine braking, but Baldisseri dismissed those claims, saying Hamilton is simply being outperformed by teammate Charles Leclerc. “When you see your teammate pushing the car more than you can, the blame naturally falls on you,” he said.
Baldisseri also questioned Ferrari’s integration process, suggesting the team may not have done enough to understand Hamilton’s driving style, unlike how they supported Schumacher in 1996. He pointed out a lack of synergy between Hamilton and his new race engineer, Riccardo Adami, noting communication issues between them. Baldisseri compared this with Hamilton’s strong relationship with his former engineer, “Bono,” at Mercedes.
Meanwhile, Eurosport Italia reports that Ferrari might consider replacing Hamilton with Max Verstappen in 2026 if performance doesn’t improve. Charles Leclerc admitted Ferrari must step up, saying they’ve already lost too many points this season. While Hamilton acknowledges the need to improve, the pressure is clearly mounting on both him and the team to deliver better results.
