MET GALA 2025 It’s hard to put into words what it means to co-chair this year’s Met. This year’s theme speaks to royalty, spirituality, and the sacred power of adornment. Co-chairing the 2025 Met Gala is a profound honor—one that carries a weight far beyond glamour. This year’s theme, rooted in royalty, spirituality, and the sacred power of adornment, speaks to histories too often overlooked and aesthetics too often dismissed. It’s a celebration not just of fashion, but of heritage—of the ways we have always used materials, symbols, and style to communicate our essence.

To walk into The Met tonight is to step into a space where ivory and cowrie shells are no longer exoticized, but recognized for what they truly are: vessels of memory. These materials don’t just decorate; they tell stories. They speak of protection, identity, lineage. They connect us to our ancestors and to each other across time and diaspora. Adornment, for many of us, has always been sacred—an armor, a prayer, a declaration of existence.

I am deeply grateful to the Costume Institute for curating a space that acknowledges these truths, to Grace Wales Bonner for bringing vision and care to every detail, and to my brilliant fellow co-chairs for their grace, power, and presence. Together, we help carry forward the spirit of the Black Dandy—an enduring symbol of resilience, elegance, and defiant beauty. The Dandy is not a trend; it’s a legacy.

Tonight, as we gather under the gaze of history, we don’t just arrive—we arrive. We step into visibility not with apology, but with pride. Because we’ve always been here. We’ve always been fly. And now, finally, the world is catching up.

Here’s to fashion that remembers. To style that speaks. To being seen, and never again forgotten.
