McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has raised questions about Lewis Hamilton’s performance at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, where Hamilton finished fifth for Ferrari. Stella suggested that Hamilton’s pace may have impacted McLaren’s race strategy, particularly affecting Lando Norris’s chances. He noted that time lost behind Hamilton, combined with Charles Leclerc’s strong pace, prevented Norris from recovering to a podium position .

Despite finishing ahead of Hamilton, Norris’s race was influenced by the time spent behind him, highlighting the challenges of overtaking on Monaco’s narrow streets. Stella’s comments reflect the fine margins and strategic complexities in Formula 1, where even small delays can have significant consequences.

Earlier in the season, Stella expressed excitement over Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, calling it a “historic” moment for F1 . However, his recent remarks underscore the competitive nature of the sport, where team strategies and driver performances are closely scrutinized.

Hamilton’s performance in Monaco, while not resulting in a podium finish, was part of a broader narrative of adaptation to his new team. As the season progresses, both Hamilton and Ferrari will aim to optimize their strategies and performance to contend for top positions.

Stella’s observations highlight the intricate dynamics of race strategy and the impact of individual performances on team outcomes, emphasizing the importance of every decision and maneuver in the high-stakes world of Formula 1.
