In a heartwarming move that’s winning applause off the ice, Dallas Stars goaltender Marc-André Fleury has taken a powerful step toward addressing youth homelessness. The veteran NHL star has invested $7.8 million of his own funds to convert a sprawling Dallas property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless and at-risk young people.

The initiative, dubbed Haven House, will provide not only beds and meals but also mental health resources, educational support, and job training—all in a safe and nurturing environment. Fleury, long known for his charitable spirit, said in a press conference that the project has been a personal mission born from years of witnessing the struggles of youth on the margins.

“Dallas has welcomed me with open arms,” Fleury shared. “This city has given me so much, and I wanted to give back in a way that truly changes lives. Every young person deserves safety, support, and a chance to grow.”

The property, a former estate in the Oak Lawn area, will undergo a complete renovation to accommodate up to 60 residents at a time. A team of social workers, counselors, and educators will be on staff around the clock to ensure comprehensive care.

City leaders have already praised the initiative. “This is more than charity—this is leadership,” said Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson. “Fleury is setting an example that goes far beyond hockey.”

Haven House is expected to open its doors in early 2026 and aims to partner with local schools, nonprofits, and businesses to offer long-term pathways for young people to reintegrate into society.

For Fleury, the goal is clear: “I’ve made a career of defending nets, but this is about defending futures.”
