Unbeaten fighter Ian Garry expresses frustration as he withdraws from his welterweight bout with Vicente Luque at UFC 296 due to pneumonia. Garry, originally slated for a high-stakes clash, developed flu-like symptoms that escalated into pneumonia, leading to his removal from the card. UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the withdrawal, emphasizing the severity of Garry’s condition.
Despite his intention to attend a press conference, Garry’s manager and wife, Layla Anna-Lee, conveyed that he won’t be able to participate in media day due to his health. In a statement, Garry expressed his disappointment at being forced to withdraw and reiterated his eagerness to compete.
“I have pneumonia. They tried to help me. In the end, UFC doctor said there’s no chance I can fight. The UFC doctor made the call. This annoys me more than anyone. I want to fight. It’s my favorite thing to do.”
