“He could be the greatest cyclist ever” – Greg LeMond backs Tadej Pogačar for Paris-Roubaix 2025

Three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond has declared that Tadej Pogačar has what it takes to win Paris-Roubaix in 2025, a feat that would cement his status as potentially the greatest cyclist of all time.

LeMond, one of the sport’s legends, praised Pogačar’s versatility and fearlessness, particularly after his dominant performance at the 2023 Tour of Flanders and his recent success in the classics. “What he’s doing is unprecedented in modern cycling,” LeMond said in an interview. “He climbs like a pure mountain goat, he time trials with the best, and now he’s conquering the cobbles. If he wins Roubaix, we’re talking about one of the most complete riders the sport has ever seen.”

Paris-Roubaix, known as the “Hell of the North,” is among the most brutal one-day races in cycling. With its unforgiving pavé sectors and unpredictable weather, it’s a race that demands strength, skill, and sheer resilience. Only a handful of riders in history have managed to master both Grand Tours and monuments like Roubaix — a list Pogačar could soon join.

Pogačar has yet to make his debut at Roubaix, but speculation is mounting that 2025 could be his year. With UAE Team Emirates reportedly tailoring his spring campaign to include the legendary race, excitement is building.

LeMond added, “If Tadej targets Roubaix seriously, I believe he can win it. He has the engine, the bike handling, and the mindset. We’re watching a once-in-a-generation talent.”

Should Pogačar succeed, he would become the first Tour de France winner since Bernard Hinault to triumph at Paris-Roubaix — a historic milestone that could redefine his legacy in the sport.
