George Russell Defends Hamilton’s ‘Very Controversial’ F1 25 Rating
Miami, FL – George Russell has come to the defense of former teammate Lewis Hamilton after EA Sports revealed the driver ratings for the upcoming F1 25 video game. In a “Drivers React” video shared on the official F1 YouTube channel, Russell was visibly surprised by Hamilton’s overall rating of 89, calling it “very controversial” and insisting it should be higher.
“89 for Lewis, what? It should be higher,” Russell exclaimed, expressing disbelief that the seven-time world champion—who is widely regarded as one of the sport’s all-time greats—was rated below expectations. Russell himself received an 87 rating, while Hamilton’s new Ferrari teammate Kimi Antonelli was rated at 72.
Although Hamilton only managed a ninth-place finish at the Miami Grand Prix with Ferrari, Russell’s remarks highlight the respect and camaraderie forged during their three seasons together at Mercedes. Despite being competitors now, Russell continues to show unwavering support for Hamilton, a gesture that didn’t go unnoticed by fans on X (formerly Twitter), many of whom praised Russell’s loyalty and sportsmanship.
Russell also showed humility in questioning his own ratings, particularly his 90 pace score. He acknowledged Antonelli’s 72 rating as fair, noting the challenges he faced himself as a rookie.
The F1 25 ratings, developed by EA Sports and Codemasters ahead of the game’s May 30 release, have sparked widespread discussion among fans and drivers alike. With ratings playing a growing role in how drivers are perceived in and out of the virtual paddock, Russell’s comments have fueled further debate and anticipation.
As fans eagerly await the game’s launch, many are applauding Russell not just for his talent on track, but also for his integrity and team spirit off it.
