Cowboys Eye Bargain Veterans to Replace Free Agent DTs in 2024: Thoughts?!

By | December 14, 2023

The Dallas Cowboys may need to fill a crucial starter position in the upcoming offseason. Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder suggests that Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Shelby Harris could be a cost-effective option for the Cowboys, given their potential losses in free agency with Johnathan Hankins and Neville Gallimore.

Holder notes Harris’s suitability due to his experience, versatility on the defensive line, and his expected affordability in the market. Currently on a one-year, $3.5 million deal, Harris has a history of signing budget-friendly contracts.

With 10 years of experience, Harris has been a key reserve for the Browns, contributing to 39% of the defensive snaps this season. He boasts a solid track record with 285 tackles, 54 quarterback hits, and 26 sacks in his career. Pro Football Focus highlights his impressive defensive and pass-rushing grades this season.

As the Cowboys face a cap challenge ($13.5 million over), Harris could be a viable, cost-effective solution for their interior defensive line needs if Hankins and Gallimore depart in free agency.
