BREAKING: Zak Brown Reveals McLaren Discussed Future Plans with Verstappen’s Camp

In a candid revelation, McLaren CEO Zak Brown confirmed that the team engaged in preliminary discussions with Max Verstappen’s representatives regarding potential future collaborations. While acknowledging the exploratory nature of these talks, Brown emphasized that McLaren remains firmly committed to its current driver lineup of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Brown’s comments come amid swirling speculation about Verstappen’s future with Red Bull Racing. Despite Verstappen’s contract extending through 2028, performance-related clauses could provide an avenue for early departure, especially if Red Bull’s competitiveness wanes.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, Brown speculated that Mercedes might be a likely destination for Verstappen. He cited Mercedes’ historical dominance, stable team environment, and strong engine program as attractive factors. Brown noted, “If I was betting, I’d bet on Merc.”

While McLaren explored the possibility of bringing Verstappen on board, Brown reiterated the team’s focus on stability and long-term success with its current drivers. Both Norris and Piastri are secured with multi-year contracts, and Brown himself is committed to leading McLaren through 2030.

As the Formula 1 landscape evolves, driver movements remain a topic of keen interest. While McLaren has engaged in discussions with Verstappen’s camp, the team’s strategic direction underscores a commitment to its existing lineup and a focus on building upon recent successes.
