An influencer family from the United Kingdom has claimed that they suffered an “absolute nightmare” during their recent trip to Malaysia due to alleged racism and bias against dark-skinned people. In a video uploaded on The Mwitis’ Instagram and YouTube channel late last night, Ray Mwiti – who is Kenyan – detailed how the security guards at an apartment building in Malaysia had acted disparagingly towards him when he attempted to check into the residence. The visibly exhausted father of two said the guards had taken issue with whether he had paid for the accommodation, how much he had paid and if he was “sure” he was at the right location. “(The guards were) just questioning me as if I was an absolute child. I was so mad and so angry, (but) I was trying to keep my cool… I felt like crying,” Ray said in the just over two-minute-long clip.

An influencer family from the United Kingdom, known online as The Mwitis, has spoken out about their distressing experience in Malaysia, claiming they were subjected to racism and discriminatory behavior. In a video shared on their Instagram and YouTube channels, Ray Mwiti, originally from Kenya, described an incident that occurred during their recent trip, calling it an “absolute nightmare.”

Ray recounted how security guards at an apartment building in Malaysia treated him with suspicion and disrespect when he attempted to check into their accommodation. Despite having all the necessary documentation, he said the guards questioned whether he had actually paid for the stay, how much he paid, and even if he was sure he was at the right location.

“It felt like I was being interrogated just for being there,” he said, visibly tired and emotionally shaken. “They were questioning me like I was a child, like I didn’t belong. I was so angry, but I had to keep calm. Honestly, I felt like crying.”

Ray’s wife and children, who are also part of their popular online presence, were not involved in the incident directly but shared in the emotional toll it took on their family. The couple emphasized that while they understand not every experience in Malaysia would be like this, the situation highlighted how dark-skinned travelers can be treated unfairly in certain parts of the world.

The video has sparked conversations online about racism in travel and the challenges faced by Black tourists abroad. Many viewers have expressed support for The Mwitis and called for greater awareness and accountability in how people of color are treated globally.
